Tis’ the Season… Office Holiday Party Season that is. And depending on the culture of your office, it’s either your most dreaded day of the year or the one you countdown to. It’s rare that the words “office” and “party” end up in the same sentence, with the exception the occasional retirement party that is. So it’s understandable that these get togethers can cause a bit of confusion when you consider how to approach them. We decided to put together your No Stress Guide to Office Holiday Parties. Follow these rules and we’re sure you’ll make it through without any incidents.

Party… but not too hard

There’s only one thing worse than being the Ebenezer Scoorgr of the party… being the one swinging off the rafters like you’re Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s couch. Even though these events can feel like a social event, it is important to remember that regardless of when or where they are held, they are an extension of the workday and should be considered as such. When it comes to drinking, pace yourself, eat something before or during (or both) and know your limit. Plus, how can you enjoy a party, if you can’t remember it?

Dress to Impress

Yes it’s a party… but that’s no excuse to dress like your headed to the club. Either dress in your typical office attire or if it’s a more casual event, think festive and fun, like holiday sweaters or flannels. It’s always easy to add a little pizazz with a light up necklace or a fun headband.

Venture Beyond Your Department

The holiday party is a great chance to socially interact with people you wouldn’t normally. Don’t be afraid to get in the holiday spirit and hang out with other departments or even higher-ups.

Plan Ahead

Don’t let the party get the better of you. If you know that you’ve got a big call or meeting the next day, know your limit and stick to it. If you plan to enjoy the party till the very last minute, plan transportation accordingly. Getting a friend to come pick you up or ordering an Uber is a much better plan then trying to figure out what to do with your car at the end of the night.

And above all… Have FUN!
