JOB (1)

For many, the hardest thing about office life is how easy it can be to get stuck at your desk for 8 hours a day. That level of inactivity might be something you don’t realize but it is something you can change. Even without leaving your desk there are so many ways to burn a few calories and avoid desk fatigue. So here’s some exercises and activities to help keep you active and ultimately more productive over the work day!

Leg Extensions

This is something you can do while typing at your computer. From your chair, lift your leg till it’s hip level and hold as long as you can. Lower the leg and then alternate sides.

Desk Ups

Assuming you have a sturdy desk or some other office furniture you can lean on, slowly push off of it, and repeat. This will look like an elevated push up.

Chair Squats

Pretty self-explanatory- simply lift your rear end off your seat and hold, sit for a couple seconds and then repeat.

Now the obvious suggestion…

Take the Stairs

This might seem obvious but we’ll say it anyway, if you’ve got a choice, take the stairs versus the elevator. Whether it’s to your afternoon meeting or in the parking garage, those extra steps can really go a long way. If your office is on a high floor, you can always get off a few floors early and walk the rest. Just make sure you’re able to exit the stairs before you leave your access pass at your desk (we’re talking from experience).

And the super obvious suggestion…

Take a Walk

Use a half of your lunch period to step away from the desk and go for a walk around the block. The fresh air will be rejuvenating and the extra steps during the day will help keep your blood pumping and metabolism up.
