Simple Habits That Can Make a Big Difference

Simple Habits Big Difference

Can healthy habits really place you on the path to success — towards making a difference? Which ones should you prioritize? We love to hear all of the great suggestions on how to change habits. Here are a few noteworthy habits we’ve incorporated into our routine in attempt to create a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

Creating a Schedule

A schedule that works for you may not look the same as a schedule that works for your friend. A daily schedule or weekly routine with to-do lists prevents us from feeling overwhelmed by all the activities going on in life, especially as year-end draws near.

One of the most productive few minutes of our weekly time is sitting down and writing out to-dos and goals, whether personal or career-oriented. We then decide dedicated days and times to tackle each task — even if it’s as minor as laundry. Your colleagues will appreciate your freshly scented and clean clothes, and you will feel great about check-marking off your list!

By establishing a clear purpose with schedules and removing distractions, it’s easier to focus more intentionally. Distractions can easily be underestimated, especially when trying to listen better at work.

Despite different priorities, scheduling personal or quiet time is a good habit to adopt. This can be difficult for us to give ourselves permission to take a few personal moments, but it may soon become the favorite part of your day or week — even if it’s for just 5 minutes.

Taking Action

The key to success is action — it ignites motivation! When you choose to focus on becoming an action-oriented individual, you will likely recognize that obstacles can be overcome — especially the mental ones. Don’t let your inner critic prevent you from taking the first step to your success!

Physical movement should never be underestimated. Prioritizing health by moving your body a few minutes each day is a great way to get the blood flowing to all parts of your body. Movement helps individuals think more clearly and focus on decisions. Even taking just a few quick breaks from your desk to stretch throughout the day can help!

Giving Back

According to ClevelandClinic.org, giving can raise your physical and mental health. Health benefits associated with volunteering include “lower blood pressure, increased self-esteem, less depression, lower stress levels, longer life, and greater happiness and satisfaction.”

Today is #GivingTuesday! A perfect opportunity to integrate the healthy habit of giving-back into your routine. At KellyMitchell, we are energized by giving back to our community through our partnership with United Way, all year long.

Reflective Writing

There is a saying: “the best ideas start on a napkin.” Our co-founders can attest, as early concepts of KellyMitchell were jotted down on the back of napkin! Writing has been proved to help discover new ideas. It is also a great mental exercise that allows for reflection on the day's events or to revisit goals.

Writing or reflecting in some way is a healthy habit to help appreciate the process. It may also leave you with a sense of peace, clarity, and accomplishment. Have you received a recent kudos for a job well done? Many of us at KM like to save those in a folder on our desktop to revisit from time-to-time and keep us on track with our action-oriented journey. They also serve as good “pick-me-ups" on a rainy day!

Life can be full of distractions and side roads with dead ends. Sometimes a turn-around is warranted but adapting healthy habits can help bring you back to the main street towards success.
