Research Engineer

Job Summary: As a Research Engineer, you will be responsible for contributing to the design of our most ambitious transformational technologies. You will work with individual teams to ensure all applications can scale at a pace that matches the ever-increasing demands of our rapidly growing business.

• Serve as a technical resource on some of our most demanding, cross-functional projects
• Solve challenging R&D problems
• Work with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and have a significant hands-on role in the design, development, assembly and documentation of these systems in the prototyping and validation stages
• Research existing methods and proposes new approaches that add value to processes
• Develop and implement testing protocols to validate key system performance metrics
• Collaborate closely with other engineering and science disciplines throughout the project lifecycle
• Identify and form partnerships with external fabrication and vendors
• Document assembly components, drawing packages, change control, bill of materials, and preventative maintenance schedules where applicable
• Document concepts and experimental results towards the development of intellectual property
• Train matrix team members, support staff, and stakeholders in machine/system operation
• Work closely with deployment teams to ensure design is transferable to domestic and international operations
• Collaborate with Safety departments to comply with industry design and safety standards

Desired Skills/Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related Engineering field
• 4-6 years post-undergraduate experience of relevant, broad engineering experiences
• Hands-on technical expertise in multiple technical areas
• Experience with researching, developing, evaluating, and integrating new technologies into a system’s workflow
• Experience managing complex projects, with bottom-line impact
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent software
• Proven track record of leading the delivery of systems
• Familiarity with automated instrumentation/equipment for production environments, with specific experience in automation
• Experience with prototyping methods and test fixtures
• Experience with rapid prototyping techniques is required, including understanding of tradeoffs and limitations for practicality and manufacturability
• Experience with validation methods/tools including experimental design, data reduction/analysis, interpretation, and iteration
• Experience with thorough documentation of designs, design changes, and validation results
• A track record of interdisciplinary interaction
• Strong communication skills to all levels of internal and external leadership with diverse backgrounds
• A proven track record of developing productive and sustainable relationships with outside vendors
• Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks without the need for daily input from leadership
• Able to provide successful results in an environment where requirements are fluid and developing throughout the process
• Proven record of delivering results on aggressive timetables, innovative thinking, and mentoring/teamwork skills
