Job Description & Responsibilities

The Upstream Technical Computing Applications team delivers industry-leading business capabilities through proprietary, commercial-grade software. The Software Developer is located in XXX and actively collaborates with internal customers and software development teams to develop and deliver software solutions to the Upstream business. The Software Developer participates in all aspects of application development including work planning, requirements gathering, development, testing, deployment and ongoing support.

  • Implement, enhance, or improve Upstream business software applications with delivery to web, cloud, and desktop platforms
  • Collaborate with engineers, geoscientists, data management staff and software development teams to develop, enhance and support proprietary modules
  • Troubleshoot and support internal business clients on issue resolution in a global operations environment

 

Skills, Experiences, Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university in Computer Sciences (preferred), Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or Applied Mechanics/ Science preferably with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0)
  • Experience in software development with Microsoft toolchain with emphasis on C# (prefer a minimum of five years of experience) and ASP.NET MVC and Entity Framework an advantage
  • Understanding of and work experience with design patterns for code design, unit testing and testable code
  • The ability to:
    • Identify issues/problems/opportunities with modern user-centered design techniques
    • Gather and interpret information to recommend appropriate course of action
    • Approach change or newness positively
    • Quickly gain and apply new knowledge and skills
    • Maintain focus and display perseverance in face of challenges
    • Build productive work relationships with customers and software developers

 

Nice-to-have skills/experiences

  • Prior work experience in the upstream oil and gas industry is an advantage
  • Prior work experience in the following will be an advantage:
    • Development and support of web applications
    • Experience with Cloud platforms
    • Experience with API development (RESTful web-based)
    • Experience with relational databases, Oracle & SQL Server; Solid experience with SQL, stored procedures, views, triggers etc.
    • UI development e.g. JavaScript, Angular, React, and WPF frameworks; UI patterns such as MVVM
    • User Center Design (user research, usability studies, interactive and visual design, paper prototypes and other low fidelity design methods, etc.)
    • Knowledge or experience with Agile Development
    • Knowledge of unit testing frameworks (Tosca, Selenium)
    • .NET, JavaScript, C/C++, Python
