KellyMitchell recently had an opportunity to participate in a truly unique and inspiring local charity and now we want to share the story with you! Our CEO, Cassandra Sanford met Theresa Wilson, founder of The Blessing Basket Project, as a fellow guest speaker during an Entrepreneur class taught by a mutual friend.
Theresa’s organization works with approximately 3,000 basket weavers across six impoverished countries to pay artisans more than anyone in the world for their products – now known as Prosperity Wages. Today The Blessing Basket Project’s financial model is helping create best practices in poverty reduction throughout the world.
Since their initial meeting, Cassandra has been an enthusiastic fan of the organization. A few weeks ago, she ran into Theresa again and found out she had created Seeds of Blessing to ensure a sustainable marketplace existed to sell these women’s baskets in the U.S. It was then Cassandra decided to host a ‘Blessing Basket Party’ to support the charity. The party was a huge success and attendees were overly generous, buying over $3,000 in baskets!
The Blessing Basket Project is now contributing and developing sustainable economies in Ghana, Uganda, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. Your basket purchases directly impact the lives of these women, their children and their futures. Be sure to visit their website to learn more, purchase baskets or to get involved.
