Chicago is home to the first skyscraper in the world, Chicago-style pizza and hot dogs, jazz music and our National Recruitment Center! On top of those things, Chicago is constantly recognized as a great place for its work/life balance and immense amenities. So what does living in Chicago really look like and what are some of the best neighborhoods to hang out in? To answer that question we asked some of our NRC employees for their picks and this is what we got!
River North
We might be a little biased, but River North is hands down our favorite. And it has nothing to do with the fact that it's where our office is. But in all seriousness, if great food and even better drinks are calling you, you'll find them just about anywhere you turn in River North. The other MAJOR draw of River North is its views of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan and access to the dining along the Riverwalk. You'll find many of our KMers love living and working in River North!
Lincoln Park
Lincoln Park is known for truly epitomizing Chicago's motto, "urbs in horto" or "City in a Garden". So if finding some greenery in the concrete jungle is your goal this is the place to go. The tree-lined streets that run paraell to the historic brick row homes are a primary characteristic of the neighborhood. Armitage Avenue is where you'll find a great mix of locally owned and high-end stores. Lincoln Ave., on the other hand, is where you'll find your late-night bars and restaurants, many that support the nearby DePaul University students!
Wicker Park/Bucktown
The creative hub of Chicago lies in the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood. With many Michelin-rated and James Beard Award-winning restaurants, this area has a great food culture! So spend the afternoon perusing vintage stores, record shops, and galleries before making your reservation at one of these incredible restaurants! If you're looking for a nightcap, check The Violet Hour after dinner!
Old Town
One of the most popular neighborhoods to live because its close to the lake and downtown. That mixed with its Victorian homes tucked away from the bustle of North Avenue and Division Street. With comedy clubs like Second City and Zanie's in the area, this is arguable perhaps the funniest neighborhood in Chicago as well. The best part about Old Town though is easily all the family-owned restaurants, like Orso's Italian restaurant!
