Summer can be the hardest time of year to stay focused. We’ve all come out of winter hibernation to trips, weddings, house projects, etc. and it’s easy to find yourself getting caught up in all these exciting things! So it’s understandable that it can be easy to get caught up in all that energy in the summer brings. So how do you keep focused at work so you can enjoy all those things more? Here are some of our favorite tips.
Wear Headphones with No Music Playing
Just putting in basic headphones will help drown out some of the background noise. They can also act as a deterrent when people come over for some small talk. Loud office or need to take it one step further? You might consider upgrading to true noise canceling headphones.
Turn Off Notifications
We all have a few guilty pleasure apps, Facebook, Instagram, Candy Crush… whatever your poison, it’s probably pulling your focus every time one of those notifications pops up on your phone. Think honestly about what apps do that for you and turn them off on your phone so you can focus during work hours. If that’s not enough, consider putting your phone on airplane mode for a predetermined chunk of time. As long as your still online and connected to your work phone, you’ll likely find these time periods are highly productive for you.
Move Workspaces
Sometimes a change of scenery is all we need to reset our focus. Finding an empty conference room, open desk, or just some casual seating near your desk might be just the thing to help you refocus and get your thoughts flowing better.
Break Tasks Up
You’ll feel like you are accomplishing more if you take one large task and break into smaller tasks. Then each step you complete you can cross it off the list. It’s easier to focus on smaller projects then and allow yourself to come up for air after completing those. Your stamina will thank you!
