How to Get Your Career Goals to FALL Into Place

KM_FallCareers-01

This week marked the *official* start to fall and just as the leaves on the trees change colors, perhaps you might be looking for a refresh as well. So grab your pumpkin spice latte and get moving to make it happen! Whatever your career goals might be, we have some tips for how to turn over a new leaf this fall.

FALL-ow Your Favorite Companies on Social Media

Following companies you’re interested in allows you to not only keep up with their new initiatives and culture but you’ll likely be among the first to hear about new jobs. This is such an easy step to show interest and educate yourself prior to an interview as it will show you actively engage with a company. And we’re not afraid of a shameless plug so if you haven’t already, be sure to connect with us on our social channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter).

Attend an UnbeLEAFable Virtual Conference

While many in-person events are still on hold, don’t let that hold you back from an awesome learning opportunity. Many events have gone virtually this year which means not only are they logistically easier to attend (hello couch!) but they are typically less cost-prohibitive. We’ve been eyeing WSJ Tech Live and Inc. 5000 Vision Conference.

Start Tracking Your Gourd Accomplishments

Often times, we are so focused on what our tasks are on a day to day basis that we forget to look at the bigger picture. This is especially true when it comes to your job. Create metrics that you can look back on monthly, quarterly, and annually to track your personal progress. This will come in handy whether you are preparing for your performance review or prepping your resume. These types of facts will help exemplify why you deserve a promotion or will show the impact you can make on a new organization.

Carve Out Time to Connect with Your Network

Since the first stay-at-home orders were issued in the spring, we haven’t had the chance to connect with as many people in our networks as we might’ve otherwise. Take the time to shoot them a quick email, text, or even a phone call to touch base. Don’t be afraid to mention at some point in the conversation, “by the way, I am starting to look for XZY job, in case you hear of anything”. Be proactive and ask if it’s alright to send them your resume as well in case they do. You’d be surprised how many times this type of networking can lead to hearing about a job before it’s published.

Trick or Treat Your Closet to a Refresh

Whether you’ve headed back in the office again or still WFH, it’s time to swap out your summer attire and replace it with your fall layers. So grab all your seersucker and palm tree prints and move then to the back of your closet. If you want to enjoy those last few “warm” days, grab a light cardigan to help transition that summer dress or shirt to a more early fall outfit. However you’re working right now, this will make getting ready in the morning so much easier.
