Thinking of getting an IT Certification? Not sure which certifications are important to potential employers? Over the past 2 years, we have noticed a dramatic increase in the number of certifications that IT professionals are studying for, obtaining, and using in their prospective positions. It is certainly making an impact on employer decisions and the hiring process, so we thought we would share what certifications are out there and what our clients are looking for.
Microsoft offers an abundance of professional and technical certifications, the most popular and sought-after being the MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional), MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) and the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer). A+ and Network+ certifications offered for network principles and IT infrastructure offered by CompTIA also seem to be beneficial.
If you’re interested in specializing in Cisco hardware and network infrastructure, consider the CCNA and CCIE certifications offered by Cisco directly, as well as the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) certification for network security.
Lastly, don’t miss out on the opportunity to sharpen your project management and service management methodology background by pursuing your Project Management Institute’s PMP certification, or an ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) certification. If you’re in the job market (or – even if you are already employed!), it always helps to stand out above the rest. A certification is a surefire way to do this, and help get you placed!
