Have Yourself a Mural Photo Shoot

Seeking some fresh autumn air? Take a walk around the city to stage your own photoshoot with some of the many murals in Chicago! Besides having the opportunity to stretch your legs, you can get some great snapshots to refresh your social media content after the months of being in quarantine. For a list and map of where to find these supersized art installments, click here.

Catch a Drive-In Movie

While drive-in movies have been around for decades, they are making a strong resurgence this year since they are such a great activity for social distancing. Whether you’re seeing a new movie or a classic, the Chicagoland area has multiple options for you.

The McHenry Outdoor has long been a popular destination, but newer pop-up theatres include ChiTown Movies and the Chicago Drive-In. If you can snag a ticket, perhaps the coolest drive-in experience is CHI-Together at Soldier Field, which is playing many of the classics from Harry Potter to Charlie’s Angels!

Go on a Roadside Attraction Tour

Your car has likely been pretty lonely since you haven’t been making your daily commute. Taking your car for a spin is a great way to hang with your quarantine crew while getting out of the house. For various reasons, long road trips might not be in the cards for you right now, but did you know there’s a bunch of fun stops worthy of a visit within a short drive of downtown?

Perhaps your trip to Italy got canceled, well have no fears, there’s a replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa just 15 minutes north of O’Hare. Movie buff? Visit the Home Alone house. Or maybe you’d rather see the world’s largest wagon in front of the Radio Flyer headquarters on the West Side. For these and other fun attractions to visit, check out this link.

Go on a Self-Guided Neighborhood Tour

We’ve all been there, you have friends or family come to visit and you get hit with the “what’s this”, “what’s that” questions. Take the time in quarantine to beef on your local knowledge by going on a self-guided walking tour, using GPSmyCity app.

Each walk or tour comes with photos to help identify landmarks as well as info on major

places of interest. The Loop Sightseeing Walking Tour was a big hit with us! And if you head out now, you’ll be able to see the trees start to change colors!

Explore The Morton Arboretum

While there are member’s only hours, the arboretum is open to the public beginning at 9 am daily, with timed tickets to ensure the crowds are managed and the attendance levels are safe.

A popular part of the hike for families is the Troll Hunt which has been extended through 2021. If your furbaby has been cooped up while you’ve been working at home, stay tuned for their special Tails on the Trails days which allows you to bring your puppers for $5 each.
