One of our favorite offices to visit in the summer is Seattle. The temperature is a perfect 72 and sunny. Basically ideal anything weather in our opinion. So we checked in with some our Seattle team to see what their favorite activities are so we could share them with you!
Just a quick 10 to 15-minute water taxi from downtown Seattle, in West Seattle, Alki is a great place to spend the summer days. Some even liken the vibe to being very ‘California’. Kayaking, stand up paddleboarding and volleyball are all great options if you want to do a little more then just suntan. You might even catch a glimpse of a few seals also catching some rays!
If you want a great place to walk, bike or picnic, check out Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park right by the water. The park spans 9 acres and while some of the sculptures are permanent, some rotate so it’s worth checking back for changes. The most iconic is a 39-foot-tall red eagle.
One of the things many people don’t realize about Seattle is that most of the city burned down in what was dubbed the “Great Fire of 1889”. On what has been called the most unusual attraction, this tour takes you through some the underground remnants from what the city previously was and what the city is currently built on top of. This isn’t your run of the mill tours, as they say, “it’s history with punch lines”.
In 1989, the Fremont Arts Council held a contest to find a way to fill a space under the bridge which had become a dumping ground of sorts. A year later, they began construction on a massive sculpture based on the folktale, Billy Goat’s Gruff. The Troll now offers an interactive exhibit that allows visitors to climb on him and explore as they please!
What was once a western-style gas station has been lovingly maintained and restored by the Georgetown community into a park for all to enjoy. The parks includes the original 44-feet wide cowboy hat and 22-feet high boots from the Hat n’ Boots station which at one point was the biggest selling gas station in the state. Rumor has it at one point even Elvis stopped by.
